Mock Drill on Fire Safety

Title: Enhancing Safety: Successful Mock Drill on Fire Safety on the occasion of Fire service week (14 to 16 April 2024)

At Skill Development Institute Bhubaneswar, ensuring the safety and well-being of students, faculty and staff is a top priority. With this commitment in mind, we recently conducted a comprehensive mock drill focusing on fire safety protocols and procedures. The mock drill aimed to assess our readiness, identify areas for improvement, and reinforce the importance of swift and effective action in the event of a fire emergency.

Objectives:

• Evaluate the effectiveness of our firefighting and fire evacuation procedures.
• Test the response time of our emergency response team.
• Identify potential bottlenecks and challenges in evacuation routes.
• Educate employees on fire safety protocols and procedures.

Preparation: Prior to the mock drill, extensive planning and coordination took place. This included:

• Designating a dedicated team to oversee the drill.
• Communicating the objectives and expectations to all students, faculty and staff.
• Reviewing evacuation routes and ensuring clear signage.
• Conducting training sessions on live fire drill to refresh employees on fire safety protocols.

Execution: On 16.04.2024, 11:00 Hrs, the mock drill was initiated with a simulated fire scenario in association with local fire station. The following steps were taken:

• Activation of the fire alarm system to signal the start of the drill.
• Immediate response from designated fire wardens and the emergency response team.
• Evacuation of employees through designated exit routes to the nearest assembly point.
• Simulated rescue operations for individuals requiring assistance.
• Coordination with local emergency services as per protocol.

Key Outcomes: The mock drill provided valuable insights and yielded several positive outcomes, including:

• Demonstrated a prompt and organized response from employees and the emergency response team.
• Identified areas for improvement, such as optimizing evacuation routes.
• Raised awareness among employees regarding ensuring fire safety and the importance of swift action during emergencies.
• Provided an opportunity for hands-on training for use of fire extinguishers and familiarization with fire safety equipment.

Conclusion: The successful execution of the mock drill underscores our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure work environment. It serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness, vigilance, and continuous improvement in mitigating potential risks. Moving forward, we will build upon the lessons learned from this drill to further strengthen our fire safety protocols and enhance the safety of all individuals within our premises.
